SSRI Drugs in Pregnancy Linked to Heart Abnormalities

UPDATE: 6 July 2011

It has been announced that prescribing antidepressants to pregnant women are at risk for their child to develop autism.
Children born to mothers who received a prescription for any antidepressant in the year before delivery were twice as likely to have an ASD (6.7% versus 3.3%; OR 2.0, 95% CI 1.2 to 3.6), according to Lisa Croen, PhD, of Kaiser Permanente Northern California in Oakland, and colleagues. SOURCE
It also speaks of the push to durg all pregnant women in a ridiculous effort to try to prevent  postpartum depression. In this sense it probably has more to do with causing PPD.

Nutritional and thyroid issues do not seem to be considered in the way of very closed minded and limited thinking.

Once again, if you regularly follow the topics of discussion on Natural Health News you will recall that we posted these two articles earlier this year.

We would also like to call your attention to the top 14 drugs identified by the FDA as requiring much more study for off label use. Of these 14, nine are SSRI or similar antidepressants (excepting Trazodone, a triazolopyridine derivative, which has its own unique set of problems).

14 Drugs Identified As Most Urgently Needing Study For Off-label Use

ScienceDaily (2008-11-26) -- Physicians and policy-makers know that drugs are frequently prescribed to treat certain diseases despite a lack of FDA approval, a practice known as off-label prescribing. Now researchers have developed a list of 14 widely prescribed medications most urgently in need of additional study to determine how effective and safe they are for their off-label uses. Antidepressants and antipsychotics are the most prominent classes of drugs on the list. ...

We do hope that Tom Daschle and Barack Obama take note of these additional damage points for the proposed use of SSRI antidepressants to allegedly meet some crazy notion that the drug use will stave off post partum depression.

Mr Obama, just like Oprah, as we have said, you can do better!

Pregnant Mothers Enrolled in Metformin Study

Metformin depletes vitamin B12  and it can lead to metabolic acidosis, yet UK researchers think that giving this drug to pregnant women can reduce obesity in their children.

I can't imagine the twisted mind of the person or persons who thought this one up, or those who give the funding.  I am just shaking my head in amazement!
Drug trial to prevent obese kids
Obese pregnant women are to be given a drug to reduce the risk of obesity in their children as part of an NHS trial.
Overweight women supply too much food to a growing baby which can lead to health problems for mother and child.
UK doctors want to try to control this with metformin, which is used to treat diabetes.
Weight Concern said it was an intriguing idea, but ideally women should reach a normal weight before pregnancy.
The researchers leading this study say 15% of pregnant women arriving at many UK hospitals are obese.
It can increase a woman's risk death, pre-eclampsia and of their babies being stillborn or large.
Larger babies are more likely to be obese later in life.
It is thought that obese pregnant women are more resistant to the hormone insulin, which prevents blood sugar levels from getting too high.
Metformin reduces insulin resistance.
It is hoped this will reduce the amount of sugar going to the baby so it is born at a normal size.
Four hundred women will take part in the trial.
Dr Ian Campbell, medical director of the charity Weight Concern, said: "It's intriguing and sadly it's necessary to look at.
"In an ideal world you would want women to take stock of their weight before pregnancy, but in reality that's not going to happen."

Warnings for use of Metformin in Pregnancy
Recent information strongly suggests that abnormal blood glucose levels during pregnancy are associated with a higher incidence of congenital abnormalities. Most experts recommend that insulin be used during pregnancy to maintain blood glucose levels as close to normal as possible. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, metformin should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly needed.
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women with immediate-release metformin. Metformin was not teratogenic in rats and rabbits at doses up to 600 mg/kg/day. This represents an exposure of about two and six times the maximum recommended human daily dose of 2000 mg based on body surface area comparisons for rats and rabbits, respectively. Determination of fetal concentrations demonstrated a partial placental barrier to metformin.

Nursing Mothers - Studies in lactating rats show that metformin is excreted into milk and reaches levels comparable to those in plasma. Similar studies have not been conducted in nursing mothers. Because the potential for hypoglycemia in nursing infants may exist, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother. If metformin is discontinued, and if diet alone is inadequate for controlling blood glucose, insulin therapy should be considered.

Pediatric Use - Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established. SOURCE: Rx List.

Vaccines for Population Control

A vaccine against HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin) for stopping pregnancy is under development.

I'm assuming this would be a permanent sterilization?

How would you "unvaccinate"?

HCG is a hormone for fat regulation too (Homeopathic HCG is used in a currently popular weight loss program).

"Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is synthesized soon after fertilization and is essential for embryonic implantation. A an anti-hCG vaccine would be ideal for immuno-contraception."

B Vitamins for a Healthy Baby

Vitamin 'may help prevent' spina bifida is an article in today's BBC News.

In the late 60s when I was in college for my second bachelor's degree (nursing) I learned in my nutrition studies that B vitamins would prevent Spina Bifida.

In the early 90s when I met Herr Kufner, I talked with him about RKBio Blend and how its rich supply of B vitamins helped prevent Spina Bifida.

These articles are from Natural Health News -

Why it pays to rely on nutritional supplementation

and

And now some some 40 years after I learned about B vitamins to prevent Spina Bifida, the BBC reports it may help be a preventive.

Whose merry-go-round are we on?

YES! Women Do Have Health Rights

Whether or not you support the ACLU, or even believe in what they do, this win is a positive step in the effort to protect women's health rights.  It also demonstrates to many who still believe that women are second calls citizens, that this is not supported by the law of the land.
Tallahassee, FL – In an important decision for the right of women to make their own medical choices, the Florida District Court of Appeal today ruled that the rights of a pregnant woman were violated when she was forced to remain hospitalized against her will after disagreeing with a hospital's recommended treatment. Influenza Vaccination During Pregnancy: NO

A Critical Assessment of the Recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices

ABSTRACT: Influenza vaccination during all trimesters of pregnancy is now universally recommended in the United States. We critically reviewed the influenza vaccination policy of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP) and the citations that were used to support their recommendations.

The ACIP’s citations and the current literature indicate that influenza infection is rarely a threat to a normal pregnancy. There is no convincing evidence of the effectiveness of influenza vaccination during this critical period. No studies have adequately assessed the risk of influenza vaccination during pregnancy, and animal safety testing is lacking. Thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative present in most inactivated formulations of the vaccine, has been implicated in human neurodevelopment disorders, including autism, and a broad range of animal and experimental reproductive toxicities including teratogenicity, mutagenicity, and fetal death.

Thimerosal is classified as a human teratogen.

The ACIP policy recommendation of routinely administering influenza vaccine during pregnancy is ill-advised and unsupported by current scientific literature, and it should be withdrawn. Use of thimerosal during pregnancy should be contraindicated.

Teratogen: Any agent that can disturb the development of an embryo or fetus. Teratogens may cause a birth defect in the child. Or a teratogen may halt the pregnancy outright. The classes of teratogens include radiation, maternal infections, chemicals, and drugs.

A small dose of mercury will kill 1 in 100 rats.
A small dose of aluminum will kill 1 in 100 rats.

When combined there is a different and striking effect: all the rats die.

Doses of mercury that have a 1 percent mortality will have a 100 percent mortality rate if aluminum is added.

Vaccines contain both aluminum and mercury.

FDA / CDC do not test for synergistic effects, just as in the current concern over chemicals in cosmetics and beauthy aids.

Mercury is also implicated in fertility issues.

And consider this comment made during a well known conference discussing vaccines -
“One, up until this last discussion we have been talking about chronic exposure. I think it’s clear to me anyway that we are talking about a problem that is probably more related to bolus acute exposures, and we also need to know that the migration problems and some of the other developmental problems in the central nervous system go on for quite a period after birth. But from all of the other studies of toxic substances, the earlier you work with the central nervous system, the more likely you are to run into a sensitive period for one of these effects, so that moving from one month or one day of birth to six months of birth changes enormously the potential for toxicity. There are just a host of neurodevelopmental data that would suggest that we’ve got a serious problem. The earlier we go, the more serious the problem.”

“The second point I could make is that in relationship to aluminum, being a nephrologist for a long time, the potential for aluminum and central nervous system toxicity was established by dialysis data. To think there isn’t some possible problem here is unreal.”

And then there is the high correlation between chronic otitis media (ear ache)and the Hep B vaccine (Diabetes 1 as well).

Consider if you will, the half-life of mercury or aluminum. If mercury has about a 50 day half-life and you keep injecting vaccines containing mercury ingredients the levels of mercury or aluminum really do not decrease, and may continue to appear in proper hair analysis. This indicates their presence in the human body.

Radiology in Pregnancy May Raise Risk of Harm

There is an increased cancer rate in children - leukemias and brain cancers - that may come from this exposure coupled with with the excessive vaccine load and over prescribing of antibiotics or PPI drugs, and other factors.

Radiation exposure to the mother may have untoward effects as well, and perhaps contributes to low thyroid function and post partum depression.

Do they have a thinking cap, or is it aluminum?
