I am very disturbed by the article that appeared in the Seattle Times last Friday -

" State lifts limit on mercury preservative in swine-flu shots"

I am disturbed because this is another clear presentation of the ineffectiveness of Washington's Department of Health and Mary Selecky, as well as Chris Gregoire. (My experience with both Selecky and Gregoire involved intentional coverup of insurance fraud involving minor children's care. No real investigation of my complaint was undertaken so I had to go the HHS IG to get things out in the open. My complaint, ignored by Selecky and Gregoire while they protected the perpetrators, became part of a major interstate insurance fraud litigation by DOJ. DOJ won this case unlike the too many that were lost by Gregoire's office under her watch.)

Gregoire's record over the years as AG and Gov have left the citizens of our state with a very bad taste over the numerous cases lost on violations at DSHS and related departments. This also extends to the abusive activities against those in healthcare who practice outside the box, using less harmful and more healing approaches to health. A very large amount of money has been paid out in these cases.

Selecky, for this push to allow neurotoxic and fertility harming mercury, along with what may be higher levels of the preservative, should be considered for malfeasance in office and considerd for early retirement.

Thimerosal neurotoxicity is associated with glutathione depletion

Thimerosol is an antiseptic containing 49.5% ethyl mercury that has been used for years as a preservative in many infant vaccines and in flu vaccines. Environmental methyl mercury has been shown to be highly neurotoxic, especially to the developing brain.

Because mercury has a high affinity for thiol (sulfhydryl (-SH)) groups, the thiol-containing antioxidant, glutathione (GSH), provides the major intracellular defense against mercury-induced neurotoxicity. Cultured neuroblastoma cells were found to have lower levels of GSH and increased sensitivity to thimerosol toxicity compared to glioblastoma cells that have higher basal levels of intracellular GSH. Thimerosal-induced cytotoxicity was associated with depletion of intracellular GSH in both cell lines.

Pretreatment with 100 microM glutathione ethyl ester or N-acetylcysteine (NAC), but not methionine, resulted in a significant increase in intracellular GSH in both cell types. Further, pretreatment of the cells with glutathione ethyl ester or NAC prevented cytotoxicity with exposure to 15 microM Thimerosal. Although Thimerosal has been recently removed from most children's vaccines, it is still present in flu vaccines given to pregnant women, the elderly, and to children in developing countries. The potential protective effect of GSH or NAC against mercury toxicity warrants further research as possible adjunct therapy to individuals still receiving Thimerosal-containing vaccinations.

To further this argument I am including comments from a medical colleague of mine from new Mexico. Perhaps his thoughts will encourage you to shed that lemming top coat, advocate for your health and questions the so-called "authorities".

Another reminder is to know if your child takes the nasal flu vaccine - This is a live vaccine and it will make your child contagious for at least three weeks, while they are sloughing off viral cells in their environment, putting you at greater risk of getting the flu.

You will see that they have suspended their normal operating procedures and will now give vaccine with Thimerosal to infants and pregnant women because they have already been notified there will be a severe shortage of Thimerosal free H1N1 vaccine.

This is exactly what I anticipated would happen and it was why I filed my complaint with the BoP. You closed the case inappropriately by getting assurance that only Thimerosal free vaccine would be given to pregnant women and children under 3. If the NM DOH follows the lead of the State of Washington, you received false assurance.

I was just sent an internal draft CDC Media Strategy, made public for the first time (see attached), which concedes that CDC does not have sound science supporting vaccine safety and must therefore resort to a program of misinformation and propaganda, referring to critical parents and safety first advocacy organizations as anti-vaccine.

In addition to conceding that fear-based propaganda will have to substitute for basic science, the memo reveals how completely CDC has descended into a military them-against-us mind set. Critics of vaccine safety are labeled anti-vaccine, as hostile parents, or as adversaries of vaccination, with no acknowledgment that criticism and inquiries can be in good faith, can sincerely be interested in promoting vaccine safety as a sensible, indeed necessary, scheme to protect the benefits to public health of mass immunization.

CDC admits: Risk communication messages regarding vaccine adverse reactions are difficult to develop. Yes, exactly, because they just dont know the risks. How, then, can CDC claim as a strength of their media plan that the [b]enefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks? This is a hungry lie.

Instead of actually doing the science to accurately ascertain the risks of vaccination, and make appropriate changes to the schedule, screening, etc., CDC proposes an aggressive public/private media campaign: [C]ommunity acceptance of vaccination demands that we take a stand to not only explain the risks of complication due to natural disease, but also toward unfounded arguments or [sic] adversaries of vaccination.

CDC makes a stunning admissions: Some claims against vaccine cannot be disproved. And: CDC does not have complete adverse event surveillance data on which to base health messages.

As previously explained, the FDA does not recommend flu vaccine for pregnant women - that has not changed and the CDC has gone rogue in this area.

Falsifying Medical Records

I find this to be an interesting story which takes me back to a situation in which I had an ethical and professional obligation to become a whistle blower.

It wasn't the first experience I'd had as a whistle blower. The good part is that I had the opportunity to work with Region X HHS Office of the Inspector General once again and also a good federal prosecutor.

Their comments following the $372 million win in the case against the company for insurance fraud was another KUDO for the veracity of my information.

The sad part, being that this event occurred in Washington state, is that not only did the Medicaid Fraud office not act, but it allowed a nurse (not a medical billing person) to get away with a concerted effort to falsify patient records at this health facility for minor children, through false complaints against me.

There was quite a long list list of irregularities at this facility in addition to falsifying records in the week before state inspectors were to arrive to certify the treatment center for state Medicaid payments.

One of the insurance fraud issues I tried to report to the state were several admissions that did not meet diagnostic criteria. The admission allowed the center to bill at about $10 thousand a pop.

The state to this day has failed to investigate my claim. Nurses employed at the state QA office were involved in withholding evidence that proved their action was false. If they admitted their actions they would have had to take action against the nurse in my complaint, another WSNA insider. Just shows the politics of it all.

By the way, the QA nurse got a promotion to health policy in the Secretary's office and the other, now an "advanced practice" nurse (who sexually harassed minor female patients and me), is still at work in a Whatcom county, Washington community.

Facts don't matter, even when children's lives and health are involved. Health care is still an industry and it is ALL ABOUT THE DO-RE-MI.

The list of violations in this one case are extensive. The most egregious involved a 15 year old sex offender we admitted, and against my concerns, placed him with a 12 year old in the room farthest from the office. This was not an approved dual diagnosis program just to add another aspect of the story.

But one good thing happened. Even though Medicaid Fraud and the AG would not act to investigate, the state's AAG came to my defense as did state and federal legislators. Plus I won a judgment against the state.

Of course I'm still waiting to learn how this order was honored. The Adjudicative Clerk's office can't seem to find it even though I have receipt of service.

Now that the Gregoire's are gone, Rob McKenna has the obligation to act.

Woman jailed for what officials say are faked doctor's notes

An Horry County woman has been charged with forgery after police said she wrote fake doctor's notices to excuse four students, including her own child, from classes at Socastee High School.

Naomi Antoinette Aranda, 45, was arrested and booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Wednesday morning and was released on a personal recognizance bond later in the afternoon.

Aranda could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

She has been charged with four counts of forgery with no dollar amount involved.

The offense is a misdemeanor, and she faces a maximum penalty of three years in jail for each charge and a fine to be determined by the court, according to the state code.

Police and school officials said it is rare for someone to be jailed for forging doctor's notes, though they hoped the case would help to educate the public about the seriousness of school attendance.

"We put it out there in an attempt to prevent future incidents like this occurring," said Sgt. Robert Kegler of the Horry County Police Department.

"Let people be aware this is a jailable offense."

Police are accusing Aranda of using business cards and forms to forge letterheads and faxing them to the school.

The investigation began last month, police said.

Teal Britton, a spokeswoman for Horry County Schools, said students are required to have a doctor's note if they are unable to attend school because of an illness.

Absences without a note, proof of a death in the family or the principal's permission are considered unlawful, she said.

In this particular case, Britton said school officials notified physicians that someone appeared to be forging their notes.

Britton said school officials can often tell if a note appears forged because many doctors use specific ink or color of paper for their notices.

"Our primary focus is how do we get parents and students to understand the significance of being in school when they are able to be in school," she said. "It's not a situation where you wish harm or embarrassment on anyone, but [we're] hopeful just the awareness ... would discourage anyone from thinking of doing that for themselves or for their child."

Salt Savvy

It seems, once again, that I've stirred up the hornet's nest on this topic of Himalayan salt.

It also seems that the proponents of this salt do not like to support free speech or any other data than their own.

Personally, I'll side with Gandhi, and also support free speech.

Also note that Washington state is going to get some stimulus money. Chris Gregoire says that a block of funds will be used to improve WA drinking water. The first thing she needs to do is take out all the fluoride in water systesm areound the state to stop poisoning the citizens. You can contact her office and let her know that flouride must be eliminated, and thank you.

We received a similar email back in December 2008, also from "Ed Leach".

Attached were the test results, as well as the "double-blind" human study meant to prove the benefits of "Himalaya Crystal Salt".

FLUORIDE TEST:

Apparently, the test was done on January 3, 2008, using a method heretofore unheard of ("M4500FC"). Tests were conducted by Turner Laboratories. There were no other details given. There is no detail on what the "solution" tested was.

Ed Leach claims that the result was 0.01 ppm, which is wrong. The result indicated was 0.1 ppm. While this may certainly be possible, there is no info as to what the solution was which actually got tested.

Further, Mr. Leach further seems unaware of the fact that fluoride content may vary batch by batch.

If he were truly concerned, every batch should be analyzed according to established protocols, and results posted on his website.

Concerning Mr. Leach's statement:

"This amount, although almost insignificant from a chemical perspective and surely inconsequential as a suspect in causing harm to human beings, still reflects the homeopathic potential for fluoride as a necessary and important complement to human health and wellbeing."

Fluoride is NOT a "necessary or important complement to human health and wellbeing". It is not an essential element, as has been proven many times. It is a poison.

Mr. Leach claims that he "is the exclusive importer of Original Himalayan Crystal Salt® as featured in the exciting and compelling book, Water and Salt, The Essence of Life, by Dr. Barbara Hendel, M.D. and Biophysicist, Peter Ferreira."

As was discovered by German researchers, the salt marketed by Leach, Ferreira et al, comes from the Khewra salt mine in Pakistan, a range approximately 700 meters high, and far away from the "Himalaya" mountain range...

THE DOUBLE BLIND HUMAN STUDY:
This "wellness test" was done by a company called "Fenestra Research". This company claimed on its website:

"Take your nutritional product sales to new heights by partnering with Fenestra Research. Make us your ally."

That explains a lot....

As someone stated on another forum:
Apparently they claim to "measure 34 clinical markers in human physiology to a very high degree of accuracy, and conclude the level of 'wellness' exhibited by individual clients with specific recommendations for improving areas of concern. Of course, the results of these tests or how they work aren't published. The whole company seems to have been formed to give credence to (oewoo) and also make a quick buck off of individuals hoping to acquire a (false) sense of legitimacy to their products."

On yet another forum you can read more: "Fenestra Research is not independent, is not impartial, and performs only one test of their own design which is judged by their own standards."

I do believe in salt for health, the natural kind, farmed preferred. I don't believe in mass marketing schemes and promoting false data, or hiding data, for the point of selling something, with profit as the motive.

I have been using natural salt much longer than it has been the latest crazy fad. I also use a very special type of salt that is farmed, and then prepared in a very special way according to old way of Zen. This salt will run circles around what your MLM party is selling or even that at Swanson's.

I am very careful about health food and natural products. I'm careful because I've watched this industry since the 1950s and I know a lot of change has come along: Sometines change is not good, nor healthy.

Because I have been known for decades as a critical thinker, I have joined with others on an expert panel at the Natural Products Foundation to serve as a resource for journalists and others seeking better information about natural products and this industry.

My caveat to other readers is, look before you leap.

A reader wrote to me about salt.

She stated, "I was reading with interest your article posted on rense.com about the toxicity in himalayan crystal salt.

I am bothered by the fluoride content of these salts and the heavy metals too. In the analyis given at Gamma Salt, the NB states that some of the analysis were provided by the "Institute of Biophysical Research in Las Vegas, NV in USA". Upon further discovery, I found that it is a NON-EXISTENT institution!

I have attached this PDF for your review if interested.

I slso contacted Fisher Environmental Labs to get their response to this, but they have not responded to my inquiry."

The Fisher Lab report shows Fluoride at 16 PPM (parts per million). Fluoride may be toxic in amounts least than 1 PPM.

For those people "hooked" on the so called pink himalayan salt, you might wish to get more scientific data before you stock up.

New U.S. Rule Pares Outpatient Medicaid Services

WASHINGTON — In the first of an expected avalanche of post-election regulations, the Bush administration on Friday narrowed the scope of services that can be provided to poor people under Medicaid’s outpatient hospital benefit.

Public hospitals and state officials immediately protested the action, saying it would reduce Medicaid payments to many hospitals at a time of growing need.

The new rule conflicts with efforts by Congressional leaders and governors to increase federal aid to the states for Medicaid as part of a new economic action plan.

President-elect Barack Obama has endorsed those efforts. At a news conference on Friday, he said that legislation to stimulate the economy should include “assistance to state and local governments” so they would not have to lay off workers or increase taxes.

In a notice published Friday in the Federal Register, the Bush administration said it had to clarify the definition of outpatient hospital services because the current ambiguity had allowed states to claim excessive payments.

“This rule represents a new initiative to preserve the fiscal integrity of the Medicaid program,” the notice said.

But John W. Bluford III, the president of Truman Medical Centers in Kansas City, Mo., said: “This is a disaster for safety-net institutions like ours. The change in the outpatient rule will mean a $5 million hit to us. Medicaid accounts for about 55 percent of our business.”

Alan D. Aviles, the president of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, the largest municipal health care system in the country, said: “The new rule forces us to consider reducing some outpatient services like dental and vision care. State and local government cannot pick up these costs. If anything, we expect to see additional cuts at the state level.”

Carol H. Steckel, the commissioner of the Alabama Medicaid Agency, said the rule would reduce federal payments for outpatient services at two large children’s hospitals, in Birmingham and Mobile.

Richard J. Pollack, the executive vice president of the American Hospital Association, said these concerns were valid.

“The new regulation,” Mr. Pollack said, “will jeopardize important community-based services, including screening, diagnostic and dental services for children, as well as lab and ambulance services.”

Herb B. Kuhn, the deputy administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, defended the rule.

“We are not trying to deny services,” Mr. Kuhn said. “We want to pay for them more accurately and appropriately. Payments for some services were way higher than they should be.”

The rule narrows the definition of outpatient hospital services to exclude those that could be provided and covered outside a hospital.

In May, the White House said it wanted to avoid the rush of “midnight regulations” that had occurred at the end of other administrations. But Bush administration officials said this week that they still intended to issue, or relax, many economic, environmental, health and safety rules before they leave office on Jan. 20.

Medicaid, financed jointly by the federal government and the states, provides health insurance to more than 50 million low-income people. Services can often be billed at a higher rate if they are performed in the outpatient department of a hospital rather than in a doctor’s office or a free-standing clinic. Hospitals generally have higher overhead costs.

Matt D. Salo, a health policy specialist at the National Governors Association, said, “The new rule is consistent with the administration’s effort to squeeze, shrink and flatten Medicaid spending.”

In a recent letter, the governors urged Congress to increase the federal share of Medicaid for at least two years. With state tax revenues plunging, many governors are considering cuts in Medicaid and other programs. Such cuts, they say, would further depress economic activity.

Ann Clemency Kohler, the executive director of the National Association of State Medicaid Directors, said: “The new rule is a pretty sweeping change from longtime Medicaid policy. Since the beginning of the program, states have been allowed to define hospital outpatient services. We have to question why the rule is being issued now, three days after the election, with a new administration coming in.”

The rule was proposed in September 2007. It takes effect on Dec. 8, six weeks before Mr. Bush leaves office.

Ms. Kohler said the rule would cut “money going to the states, to safety net providers, at a time when states are really being stressed.”

“More and more people are coming onto Medicaid,” she said. “People are losing their jobs and running out of unemployment benefits. Some employers can no longer afford to provide health insurance to their workers.”

In the last 18 months, Congress has imposed moratoriums on six other rules that would have cut Medicaid payments. But the administration says Congress did not block the rule issued on Friday.

Larry S. Gage, the president of the National Association of Public Hospitals, said, “We will urge Congress to extend the moratorium to this rule, and we will ask the Obama administration to withdraw it.”

And in other news we find Big Pharma (one great group of very substantial contributions to 'W') being cited for prolific Medicaid billing fraud.

Kansas is suing to recover millions in over payment -

According to the lawsuit, the Medicaid program spent more $160 million on meds last year. And the suit alleges the price for a drug paid by the state, based on a fraudulently-reported Average Wholesale Price and other price indicators, often bears no relationship to the true price and can exceed 100 percent to 200 percent above the actual price.

One example cited - Dey reported an AWP of $44.10 for Ipratropium Bromide, yet the AG claims the drugmaker sold the same drug to retail pharmacists for $8.35 - a 355 percent difference. And Glaxo reported an AWP of $128.24 for Zofran, but charged $22.61- a 450 difference.

Perhaps is the current administration would move to prosecute Big Pharma for the egregious activity the recovery would save Medicaid from current cuts. The FDA might be cleaned up a little at the same time, and don't they need an overhaul!

WARNING: I once blew the whistle on perpetrators of Medicare fraud involving Washington state. Instead of doing an accurate investigation, Mike Gregoire, husband of the the current governor and formerly with the Medicaid Fraud unit in the AGs office (at a time when his wife was AG), he feel into lock step with the typical bureaucratic cover-up: Protect the System First.

Fortunately my contacts at the Region X HHS OIG office was glad to take my data. DOJ was prosecuting the company I tried to report to Gregoire for insurance fraud in ten states.

The FEDS won this case and got a $372 million settlement.

Former state legislator Dave Schmidt did do a proper investigation, finding egregious errors by the state. He assisted me in regaining my status. DOH still is covering up. Mike and some DOH cronies continued the fraud by "loosing" legal documents and ignoring fact. Funny though that the AAG assigned to represent the state came out in favor of my facts and me. Former gov Gary Locke ignored the facts too and went so far as to cover up for DOH lies, at a time when he agreed to a request by a US Congressman to investigate. Locke refused to look at my eveidence. Locke and Mike's wife are law school grads and should know very well about due process and equal protection. I can't say for sure, but they went very far to attack the messenger here. And lost some recovery money as well. For shame.

Fraud has many faces.
