Drug companies firms overstate the benefits of patented medicines, spend vast amounts on getting doctors to prescribe them and underplayed serious side-effects, says Prof Donald Light of the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey, US. When the "toxic side-effects" of prescription drugs were taken into account, and their misuse, he claimed they were "a significant cause of death". Cholesterol-lowering statins were a classic example of the drugs industry overselling a product as a wonder-pill to prevent heart attacks, despite evidence that they could do more harm than good. He said drug cos spend 2-3 x more on marketing than on research. He has written in both the Lancet & BMJ.

You know I was thinking the other day that most prescription benefit plans through an employer covers most prescription drugs at least 80%, but they don't cover drug treatment or therapies dispensed by a Naturopathic or Homeopathic doctor. It got me a thinking about the possible connection between drug companies and health insurance companies. I think many ppl would go for natural treatment, but because the work insurance only covers pharmaceuticals they end up taking it for financial reasons.
@ topic - No, they don't work. They simply mask symptoms but never cures anything. Drugs will buy you a few years of oblivion until something bigger and worse pops up.
Good comment! And it shows you are seeing the long-existing collusive connections between Big PhRMA and Big Insurance. Welcome to the world of price-fixing and limits to care, it has been going on for decades. You can learn more in 'Raceteering in Medicine', and older book but very truthful.
And the link here about restricting access to other treatment modalities is tied to this, licensing, AMA controls, more....
The problem with licensing is that it is political and focused on $$$, not focused on access to care or quality of care.
Sadly, the new hybrid "naturaopathic medicine" is just an overlay on the mainstream medical model, with a twist.
There are so many Natural Health remedies for psoriasis that have been studied, proven and applied successfully by a significant number of psoriasis patients and conventional physicians.
