ALERT: Splenda to be Senomyx-ed

UPDATE: August 2010 - Now you can have something new to fool your tastebuds, and alter theri ability to properly sense tatse.  Its a product called 'Nevella' that aims to clean up on the probiotic band wagon.  This packet contains dextrose, maltodextrin, sucralose, and baccillus coagulans.  It's also labelled gluten-free to grab profits from unsupecting consumers, and "suitable for people with diabetes".

While high quality probiotics help everyone, sucralose (Splenda) does not.

"Nevella is a brand name for the artificial sweetener sucralose, which is also sold under the name Splenda. Sucralose is produced by treating sugar with chlorine chemicals, resulting in a substance 600 times sweeter than sugar. The official Nevella website states there are no known side effects. Alternative health care providers as well as consumers have expressed concern about possible risks associated with consuming chlorinated sugar, and people have made anecdotal reports of side effects.

"Animal Studies - Many side effects were reported in rats that were fed sucralose during clinical trials.

Much is already known about sucralose.  You can more about it here

Feb 2010 - Senomyx is a flavor enhancer used for salt, sweet and other tastes.  Campbell Soup uses Senomyx.  Often you do not have to be told it is in food you are buying.

S2383 is intended to enhance the taste of sucralose
If you haven't heard about Senomyx think of a flavor enhancer like MSG.  The bad news doesn't stop there, but the FDA says they don't have to label it.  It comes under artificial flavors.  Of course, we've told all consumers never use processed foods, and especially anything that says artificial and/or natural flavors which is where they hid aspartame and MSG.  What is Senomyx made of?  http://www.mpwhi.com/senomyx_sweeter_than_sweet.htm  This is so disturbing I would say to boycott all companies that use it like Nestles and Coke.

We are familiar with sucralose, a chlorocarbon poison.  Here is Dr. James Bowen's paper, The Lethal Science of Splenda:  http://www.wnho.net/splenda_chlorocarbon.htm http://www.wnho.net/splenda_chlorocarbon.htm

So now they are adding Senomyx to Sucralose.  Remember that Dr. Bowen also said when he wrote the above paper that if you go from aspartame to Splenda you will maintain the reactions to aspartame and pick up those from Splenda.  With regard to reports on reactions from Splenda that is just what is happening.  Poison plus poison equal poison and now this disgusting Senomyx is being added which according to the above report starts out with aborted fetus cells.  Be warned.

Senomyx Receives GRAS Determination For S2383 Sucralose Enhancer

Senomyx, Inc., a leading company focused on using proprietary technologies to discover and develop novel flavor ingredients for the food, beverage and ingredient supply industries, announced today that it has been notified by the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association (FEMA) that its sucralose enhancer, S2383, has been determined to be Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) under the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, administered by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). S2383, which was discovered and developed by Senomyx, is an extremely effective enhancer of the high-intensity sweetener sucralose. The GRAS determination by FEMA allows S2383 to be incorporated into products in the U.S. and in numerous other countries.

"Receiving GRAS determination for our S2383 sucralose enhancer is an important milestone for Senomyx," stated Kent Snyder, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company. "Senomyx previously received GRAS status for our savory flavor ingredients, which are currently incorporated into products being marketed by Nestle. In addition to enabling commercialization of our flavor ingredients, these regulatory determinations substantiate Senomyx's discovery, development, and regulatory expertise."

S2383 is intended to enhance the taste of sucralose, a high-intensity sweetener used in a wide variety of beverages and foods such as confectionaries, baked goods, desserts, and dairy products, as well as over-the-counter (OTC) healthcare products and dietary supplements. In taste tests, S2383 allowed the amount of sucralose in product prototypes to be reduced by up to 75% while maintaining the desired sweet taste. By enabling the reduction of sucralose, S2383 may allow manufacturers to decrease their costs of goods and potentially improve the taste characteristics of certain products.

"The rapid progress made with S2383 is indicative of Senomyx's leadership in the science of taste," noted Mark Zoller, Ph.D., Senomyx's Chief Scientific Officer and Executive Vice President of Discovery and Development. Senomyx scientists have made several key discoveries relating to the human sweet taste receptor and developed patented methods for utilizing the receptor in assays designed to identify new sweet taste enhancers. "S2383 was identified in 2007, and the same methodology resulted in the 2008 discovery of S6973, an exceptionally effective enhancer of sucrose (table sugar). S6973 enables up to 50% reduction of table sugar in numerous food and beverage product prototypes without compromising taste. We are currently conducting development activities needed to support regulatory filings for S6973, and we believe that our experience with S2383 will be helpful as we move forward," Dr. Zoller added.

Senomyx

TypePublic (NASDAQSNMX)
GenreBiotechnology
Founded1999
Founder(s)Lubert Stryer
HeadquartersSan Diego, California, USA
Websitehttp://www.senomyx.com/
Senomyx (Ticker symbol: SNMX) is an American biotechnology company working towards developing additives to make foods taste and smell better. Their website claims that it has essentially reverse engineered the receptors in humans that react for taste and aroma, and they are capitalizing on how these work to make chemicals that will make food appear to taste better.
Senomyx was founded by prominent biochemist Lubert Stryer in 1999. In May 2001 Stryer returned to his professorship at Stanford University and resigned from Senomyx, but continues to be the Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board.
The company developed Substance 951, a "potentiator" used to amplify the sweetness of sugar in food products, thereby allowing the consumer to reduce the amount of sugar used.
The chemistry of Senomyx has drawn criticism from certain people even after it passed FDA regulations. It's ratio in testing was low enough to fall through a certain FDA loophole. Any items containing Senomyx are not required to mention it. They can merely throw it in under active ingredients as "natural flavors".
Using information from the human genome sequence, Senomyx has identified hundreds of taste receptors and currently owns 113 patents on their discoveries. Senomyx collaborates with seven of the world’s largest food companies to further their research and to fund development of their technology. Ajinomoto Co., Inc., Kraft Foods, Cadbury Schweppes, Campbell Soup Company, The Coca-Cola Company, Firmenich SA, NestlĂ© SA, and Solae all collaborate with Senomyx, but decline to specify where its additives may be found in their many food categories.
Senomyx’s products work by amplifying the intensity of other flavors, such as the salt in Campbell’s soups. The soup maker can reduce the amount of sodium in each can by about one third with the addition of Senomyx’s chemical, and then proudly label the soup “low sodium.” Because very small amounts of the additive are used (reportedly less than 1 part per million) Senomyx’s chemical compounds will not appear on labels, but will fall under the broad category of “artificial flavors.” For the same reason, the company’s chemicals have sped past the FDA’s safety approval process usually required for food additives. Senomyx’s MSG-enhancer earned the Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status from the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association, an industry-funded organization, in less than 18 months, which included three months of tests on rats. With public health officials calling for consumers to limit salt and sugar in foods, food manufacturers are scrambling to find ways to reformulate their concoctions with less of the two ingredients they depend upon most for mass taste appeal. Collaboration with Senomyx seems to be the magic bullet: a sodium- and sugar-reduced product with no taste change, and a politically correct “cleaned up” label.
With questions of future safety of the additives now left largely up to chance, Senomyx’s concoctions are quietly finding their way into the global packaged food stream. In fact, according to Senomyx’s website, it “received a positive review by the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives, which determined that there were no safety concerns with the use of the Company’s savory flavor ingredients in foods. The positive assessment by JECFA is expected to expedite regulatory approvals in a number of countries, particularly those that do not have independent regulatory approval systems.”
Two of Senomyx’s newest innovations include a Cool Flavor Program, which enhances cooling, menthol sensations, and a Bitter Blocker Program. According to Senomyx’s website, the company is collaborating with Solae, the international soy ingredients supplier, “to develop new bitter blockers that better modulate and control bitterness in certain soy-based products.” Senomyx has identified the receptors in the mouth responsible for sensing bitter taste (nature’s way of warning us against ingesting poison) and developed a chemical additive to knock out these receptors when eaten with hydrolyzed soy protein and other soy derivatives. Senomyx’s revenues for the last quarter of 2007 were up 87 percent from the same period in 2006, stock prices are rising and the corporate outlook for 2008 is glowing. CEO Kent Snyder reports that corporate goals include “continuing to achieve significant progress in all of our discovery and development programs such as regulatory approval for our S2383 sucralose enhancer and selection of a sucrose enhancer for regulatory development. We also expect expanded commercialization of food products containing our savory flavor ingredients and additional new business development accomplishments.”[1]

Organochlorine Exposure Alters Thyroid Function

Organochlorine compounds, also called chlorinated hydrocarbons, include DDT. This same group of chemicals includes sucralose, otherwise known as Splenda.

Chemically speaking sucralose is made from sucrose by substituting three chlorine atoms for three hydroxyl groups to yield 1,6-dichloro-1,6-dideoxy-BETA-D-fructofuranosyl-4-chloro-4-deoxy-alpha-D-galactopyranoside. It was originally developed as an insecticide.

Especially risky to people with diabetes, an endocrine disorder linked to thyroid and other endoctine imbalances. Few human studies of safety have been published on sucralose. One study of diabetic patients using the sweetener showed a statistically significant increase in glycosylated hemoglobin (Hba1C), which is a marker of long-term blood glucose levels and is used to assess glycemic control in diabetic patients. According to the FDA, "increases in glycosolation in hemoglobin imply lessening of control of diabetes.

Research in animals has shown that sucralose can cause many problems in rats, mice, and rabbits, such as:

Shrunken thymus glands (up to 40% shrinkage)
Enlarged liver and kidneys.
Atrophy of lymph follicles in the spleen and thymus
Increased cecal weight
Reduced growth rate
Decreased red blood cell count
Hyperplasia of the pelvis
Extension of the pregnancy period
Aborted pregnancy
Decreased fetal body weights and placental weights
Diarrhea
Presence of mutagenic cells related to lymphoma

The FDA acknowledges contaminants are present and that sucralose "is produced at an approximate purity of 98%". While that may sound pure, it turns out that the final sucralose product contains small amounts of potentially dangerous substances such as:

Heavy Metals (e.g., Lead and Arsenic )
Triphenilphosphine Oxide
Methanol
Chlorinated Disaccharides
Chlorinated Monosaccharide

Some reasons to avoid sucralose:

Pre-approval tests indicated potential toxicity of sucralose.
There are no *independent* controlled human studies on sucralose (similar to 15 years ago for aspartame).

There are no long-term (12-24 months) human studies of sucralose's effects.

There is no monitoring of health effects. It took government agencies decades to agree that there were countless thousands of deaths from tobacco. Why? Simply because there had been no monitoring or epidemiological studies. Without such monitoring and studies, huge effects can easily go unnoticed.

Eventually the metabolites of these compounds enter the waste water and the water supply. The environmental impact is unknown.
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jul 21 - Environmental exposure to organochlorine compounds affects thyroid function in preschool children, according to a report from Spain in the July issue of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

In 259 four-year-olds from a general population birth cohort, Dr. Mar Alvarez-Pedrerol from the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology-IMIM in Barcelona and colleagues measured blood levels of thyroid hormones and organochlorines, including polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and dichlorodiphenyl trichloroethane, the pesticide commonly known as DDT.

In multivariate models, most organochlorine compounds were negatively associated with free T3 levels, the authors report.

Continuous exposures to PCB-118 and beta-hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) were associated with lower free T4 levels, the report indicates, although the association with beta-HCH was not statistically significant.

There was no association between continuous organochlorine exposure and TSH levels, the investigators say.

The effects were generally greater among boys than among girls, the researchers note.

"The mechanisms involved in the alteration of thyroid hormone homeostasis are still not fully understood," the authors write. "Because of the structural similarity between some organochlorines and thyroid hormones, organochlorines are suspected to either decrease or mimic the biological action of thyroid hormones."

In a related editorial, Dr. Leda Chatzi from University of Crete, Greece points out, "As neurological development occurs in discrete developmental windows, even transient disorders in thyroid hormone availability can have profound effects on brain development."

Dr. Chatzi adds that most studies of organochlorine effects on children have focused on prenatal exposure. "There is increasing need for longitudinal studies measuring the effect of postnatal exposure...and possible causal relationships between organochlorines, thyroid function, and neurodevelopment during childhood," Dr. Chatzi concludes.

Splenda Lawsuit Begins 1/6/09

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- U.S. District Court
Judge Dale S. Fischer has set January 6, 2009 as the starting date
for a potentially landmark civil suit against Johnson & Johnson over
its alleged false advertising of the artificial sweetener Splenda.

The central issue before the court is whether the advertising of
Splenda -- a man made chemical sweetener containing chlorine -- makes
consumers believe it is a natural product, by using taglines like
'Made from sugar, so it tastes like sugar' and similar advertising.
Internal documents show Johnson & Johnson knew that its Splenda
advertising was causing consumers to believe that Splenda is natural,
even though it is not. Although rulings in France, Australia and New
Zealand have found Johnson & Johnson's advertising of Splenda to be
deceptive, the company continues advertising in the United States
that remains the subject of legal scrutiny and public criticism.

Lead Sugar Association attorney Mark Lanier declared: 'Now we look
forward to presenting the truth about Splenda to the jury and
focusing on the very real effect of misleading advertising. We are
confidant that the outcome will be a victory for consumers everywhere.'

THE LETHAL SCIENCE OF SPLENDA,A POISONOUS CHLOROCARBON
By James Bowen, M.D.

James Bowen, M.D., A physician, biochemist, and survivor of aspartame
poisoning warns about yet another synthetic sweetener, Splenda.

Hawaii, May 8, 2005 -- The chemical sucralose, marketed as "Splenda",
has replaced aspartame as the #1 artificial sweetener in foods and
beverages. Aspartame has been forced out by increasing public
awareness that it is both a neurotoxin and an underlying cause of
chronic illness worldwide. Dr. James Bowen, Researcher and
biochemist, reports:

"Splenda/sucralose is simply chlorinated sugar; a chlorocarbon.
Common chlorocarbons include carbon tetrachloride, trichlorethelene
and methylene chloride, all deadly. Chlorine is nature's Doberman
attack dog, a highly excitable, ferocious atomic element employed as
a biocide in bleach, disinfectants, insecticide, WWI poison gas and
hydrochloric acid.

"Sucralose is a molecule of sugar chemically manipulated to surrender
three hydroxyl groups (hydrogen + oxygen) and replace them with three
chlorine atoms. Natural sugar is a hydrocarbon built around 12 carbon
atoms. When turned into Splenda it becomes a chlorocarbon, in the
family of Chlorodane, Lindane and DDT.

"It is logical to ask why table salt, which also contains chlorine,
is safe while Splenda/sucralose is toxic? Because salt isn't a
chlorocarbon. When molecular chemistry binds sodium to chlorine to
make salt carbon isn't included. Sucralose and salt are as different
as oil and water.

"Unlike sodium chloride, chlorocarbons are never nutritionally
compatible with our metabolic processes and are wholly incompatible
with normal human metabolic functioning. When chlorine is chemically
reacted into carbon-structured organic compounds to make
chlorocarbons, the carbon and chlorine atoms bind to each other by
mutually sharing electrons in their outer shells. This arrangement
adversely affects human metabolism because our mitochondrial and
cellular enzyme systems are designed to completely utilize organic
molecules containing carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and other
compatible nutritional elements.

"By this process chlorocarbons such as sucralose deliver chlorine
directly into our cells through normal metabolization. This makes
them effective insecticides and preservatives. Preservatives must
kill anything alive to prevent bacterial decomposition."

Dr. Bowen believes ingested chlorocarbon damage continues with the
formation of other toxins: "Any chlorocarbons not directly excreted
from the body intact can cause immense damage to the processes of
human metabolism and, eventually, our internal organs. The liver is a
detoxification organ which deals with ingested poisons. Chlorocarbons
damage the hepatocytes, the liver's metabolic cells, and destroy them.

In test animals Splenda produced swollen livers, as do all
chlorocarbon poisons, and also calcified the kidneys of test animals
in toxicity studies. The brain and nervous system are highly subject
to metabolic toxicities and solvency damages by these chemicals.
Their high solvency attacks the human nervous system and many other
body systems including genetics and the immune function. Thus,
chlorocarbon poisoning can cause cancer, birth defects, and immune
system destruction. These are well known effects of Dioxin and PCBs
which are known deadly chlorocarbons."

Dr. Bowen continues: "Just like aspartame, which achieved marketplace
approval by the Food and Drug Administration when animal studies
clearly demonstrated its toxicity, sucralose also failed in clinical
trials with animals. Aspartame created brain tumors in rats.
Sucralose has been found to shrink thymus glands (the biological seat
of immunity) and produce liver inflammation in rats and mice.

"In the coming months we can expect to see a river of media hype
expounding the virtues of Splenda/sucralose. We should not be fooled
again into accepting the safety of a toxic chemical on the blessing
of the FDA and saturation advertising. In terms of potential
long-term human toxicity we should regard sucralose with its chemical
cousin DDT, the insecticide now outlawed because of its horrendous
long term toxicities at even minute trace levels in human, avian, and
mammalian tissues.

"Synthetic chemical sweeteners are generally unsafe for human
consumption. This toxin was given the chemical name "sucralose" which
is a play on the technical name of natural sugar, sucrose. One is not
the other. One is food, the other is toxic; don't be deceived."

Dr. Bowen also calls attention to another seldom recognized and
deadly permanent effect of these chemicals: "Aspartame, sold as
NutraSweet, Equal, E951, Canderel, Benevia and under other names, is
a hypersensitization agent which causes Polychemical Sensitivity
syndrome. Chlorocarbons strongly induce uncurable hypersensitivity
diseases which are now becoming rampant." (James Bowen, M.D.)

Doctor Bowen has spent 20 years researching artificial sweeteners
after his use of aspartame resulted in being diagnosed with Lou
Gehrig's disease. Dr Bowen's intention is to warn the world of the
toxicity of tabletop poisons like aspartame, Splenda and Neotame.

Note by Dr. Betty Martini:

Dr. Betty Martini says "the controversy rages over Splenda
(sucralose). Is it safe and natural like sugar or is it a chlorinated
hydrocarbon? As lawsuits fly, consider the chemistry of this
artificial compound."

She adds: "The FDA denied approval of aspartame for 16 years since it
was created and then caved in to political/economic pressure when Don
Rumsfeld, CEO of the manufacturer, was brought to Washington by
Ronald Reagan. A new FDA Commissioner was appointed to approve it
then became a consultant for NutraSweet's public relations firm for
$1,000/day on a 10 year contract. Forthcoming has been a global
epidemic of disability and death. One might expect FDA to be more
cautious next time, yet FDA approved the toxic chlorocarbon Splenda
without hesitation and without any long term testing on human subjects."

The Lethal Science of Splenda

UPDATE: 1/20/10  Truvia complaints

UPDATE: 1/13/10
Not only is Splenda a risk to the health of people who use it, it seems as if it is a health risk to everyone because it is not cleared by water treatment systems. Note, however, that *the science proves that sucralose is broken down in the human body* and this is not reported by the writer in the article that follows.

That Splenda you're drinking will be in our water supply for awhile
By Laura Vanderkam

WASHINGTON, D.C.—People like sucralose—the artificial sweetener marketed as Splenda—because the human body *can’t break it down* and use it. That means the substance has almost no calories and makes it a popular ingredient in everything from cookies to diet sodas. Unfortunately, it turns out that modern wastewater treatment methods don’t break down Splenda either.

That, according to Smitha Ramakrishna, 17, one of 40 finalists in the 2009 Intel Science Talent Search who’ve gathered in Washington, DC, for the final judging rounds this week, means that the sweetener can accumulate in the water supply after people excrete it, potentially harming fish and other living things.

Ramakrishna, a senior at Corona del Sol High School in Chandler, Arizona, first became interested in water issues on a trip to India when she was 12. Her parents took her to an orphanage. She was appalled by the poverty—the lack of tables and chairs for eating, for instance—but what struck her most is that these children didn’t even have access to clean water. In Arizona, despite an ongoing drought, “you turn on the tap and it’s there,” she says. “You take it for granted.”

She came home and, despite her tender years, started an organization called AWAKE, dedicated to water conservation and education. Over the years, AWAKE has helped 3,000 kids in India gain access to clean water through reverse osmosis projects and rainwater harvesting systems.

By high school, however, Ramakrishna decided she wanted to focus more on the science of clean water, and less on the policy. She tried to start doing research at Arizona State University, though since she was the first high schooler her lab had ever had—and she was under age 16—this caused much controversy. “It’s almost child labor,” she says, laughing, explaining the problem. The case went all the way up to the university president’s office. But eventually she was allowed to subject sucralose to various treatments, like bacterial digestion, typically used in wastewater treatment plants. She found that sucralose resisted most of these treatments, and was only broken down into biodegradable molecules with extensive time and concentration of titanium oxide and ultraviolet light. Since few plants use these methods, that means almost all the sucralose people eat or drink winds up in the ecosystem.

It’s too soon yet to say what that will cause. Preliminary studies, Ramakrishna says, suggests that sucralose might poison fish in large enough concentrations. She plans to study this question more in college, potentially at A.S.U., where she continues to work—as do more than 10 high school students, now that she’s broken the barrier. “It’s opened a whole new door,” she says.

Originally posted 12/16/09 (2/52,000 in AOL search): Studies have shown that sucralose can:
* Cause the thymus to shrink by as much as 40% (the thymus is your immune powerhouse - it produces T cells)

* Cause enlargement of the liver and kidneys

* Reduce growth rate as much as 20%

* Cause enlargement of the large bowel area

* Reduce the amount of good bacteria in the intestines by 50%

* Increase the pH level in the intestines (a risk factor for colon cancer)

* Contribute to weight gain

* Cause aborted pregnancy low fetal body weight

* Reduce red blood cell count

Particular warning to diabetics: Researchers found that diabetic patients using sucralose showed a statistically significant increase in glycosylated hemoglobin, a marker that is used to assess glycemic control in diabetic patients. According to the FDA, sucralose "increases in glycosolation in hemoglobin imply lessening of control of diabetes."
Here's a quote from another article - Among the results in the study by Drs. Mohamed B. Abou-Donia, Eman M. El-Masry, Ali A. Abdel-Rahman, Roger E. McLendon and Susan S. Schiffman is evidence that, in the animals studied, Splenda reduces the amount of good bacteria in the intestines by 50%, increases the pH level in the intestines, contributes to increases in body weight and affects the P-glycoprotein (P-gp) in the body in such a way that crucial health-related drugs could be rejected. Turner noted that the P-gp effect "could result in crucial medications used in chemotherapy for cancer patients, AIDS treatment and drugs for heart conditions being shunted back into the intestines rather than being absorbed by the body as intended."

Even limited use of diet soda is known to damage kidney function
"Two or more servings per day of artificially sweetened soda and faster kidney function decline; no relation between sugar-sweetened beverages and kidney function decline was noted.” Moreover, this association persisted even when the researchers accounted for age, obesity, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, physical activity, calorie intake, diabetes and cigarette smoking. Clearly, artificially sweetened sodas are detrimental to kidney health."
Other studies have shown it is linked to cancer and has led to kidney calcification.

There are 35 articles with important information about sucralose and aspartame as well as toxicity of new so-called "natural" sweeteners you can read in Natural Health News.

We suggest using safe sweeteners like "Just Like Sugar".  For more information look for their logo in the right hand column of our BLOG.  Pure extract of stevia is also safe, and can be ordered from us.  You must make sure that any stevia product you purchase is pure, not combined with other harmful ingredients.

And from 2006 -
KOMO TV - Seattle, Herb Weisbaum, Published April 9, 2006

SEATTLE - An investigation by the Environmental Working Group, a well-respected consumer organization, finds high levels of benzene contamination in diet soda.

Benzene is a known cancer causer, something you do not want in your food.

The EWG based its report on data collected by the Food and Drug Administration from 1995 through 2001. It showed that 79 percent of the diet soda samples tested during this six-year period "were contaminated with benzene at levels above the federal limit for benzene in tap water."

The average benzene level found in the diet soda was 19 parts per billion, nearly 4 times higher than the tap water standard which is 5 parts per billion. No brands were identified by the FDA, so I can't tell you which pop they tested.

The Environmental Working Group is not suggesting people stop drinking soft drinks. It does want the FDA to make its test reports public and to take action when manufacturers violate the established safety standards.

The EWG did criticize the FDA for making statements that the benzene levels it found were "insignificant" and "do not suggest a safety concern."

Requests for Information Regarding Sucralose

I notice that there are many people searching for information about the side effects of sucralose (Splenda). As I am in the tedious process of updating one of my web sites I just happened to locate some information I have had there for quite a few years about sucralose. There are links to more information as well. This BLOG has a number of posts on sucralose and aspartame dangers.

And from another source:
Is Splenda Really As Safe As They Claim It to Be?

As of 2006, only six human trials have been published on Splenda (sucralose). Of these six trials, only two of the trials were completed and published before the FDA approved sucralose for human consumption. The two published trials had a grand total of 36 total human subjects.

36 people sure doesn't sound like many, but wait, it gets worse, only 23 total were actually given sucralose for testing and here is the real killer: The longest trial at this time had lasted only four days and looked at sucralose in relation to tooth decay, not human tolerance.

Toxic Damage From Splenda

Splenda is a chlorinated hydrocarbon which is very different that sugar. It is sugar modified with chlorine. Chlorine is a carcinogen. Recent studies show that Splendashow that it is gentoxic and alters DNA.

Comet assay tests groups of 4 mice to show sucralose genotoxicity in
stomach, colon, lung, Yu F Sasaki et al, Mutation Research 2002.

from Mark Gold
Splenda was first developed as a pesticide and its pre-approval research showed that it caused shrunken thymus glands (up to 40% shrinkage) and enlarged liver and kidneys, and calcification in the kidneys.

[Toxicologist Judith] Bellin reviewed studies on rats starved under experimental conditions, and concluded that their growth rate could be reduced by as much as a third without the thymus losing a significant amount of weight (less than 7 percent). The changes were much more marked in rats fed on sucralose. While the animals' growth rate was reduced by between 7 and 20 percent, their thymuses shrank by as much as 40 percent.

Other adverse effects reported in pre-approval research included:

* Shrunken thymus glands (up to 40% shrinkage) (EO56)
* Enlarged liver and kidneys. (EO57 & E161)
* Atrophy of lymph follicles in the spleen and thymus (EO51, EO56, EO151)
* Increased cecal weight (E151)
* Reduced growth rate (EO57)
* Decreased red blood cell count (EO55)
* Hyperplasia of the pelvis (EO57)
* Extension of the pregnancy period
* Aborted pregnancy (E134)
* Decreased fetal body weights and placental weights (EO32)

# Sucralose Breaks Down
Despite the manufacturer's mis-statements, sucralose does break down into small amounts of 1,6-dichlorofructose, a chemical that has not been adequately tested in humans.

# Independent, Long-Term Human Research
None. Manufacturer's "100's of studies" (some of which show hazards) were clearly inadequate and do not demonstrate safety in long-term use.

# Chlorinated Pesticides
The manufacturer claims that the chlorine added to sucralose is similar to the chlorine atom in the salt (NaCl) molecule. That is not the case. Sucralose may be more like ingesting tiny amounts of chlorinated pesticides, but we will never know without long-term, independent human research.

# Conclusion
While it is unlikely that sucralose is as toxic as the poisoning people are experiencing from Monsanto's aspartame, it is clear from the hazards seen in pre-approval research and from its chemical structure that years or decades of use may contribute to serious chronic immunological or neurological disorders.

Here you have some science to counter the HYPE

Most people know little about the two key players in the artificial sweetener market, aspartame and sucralose.

What they do know is more likely than not limited to the marketing and advertising HYPE blasted over the airwaves, online or in print. What they buy into is really a long known health dive, and the risk of very serious problems over time. In some, the problems can and do appear almost immediately.

Aspartame and sucralose (Nutrasweet and Splenda)have in common the fact that both were developed as insecticides. Very few know this, including your local health care provider.

Aspartame is a chemical soup of ingredients that turn into methyl (wood) alcohol when exposed to heat and during digestion.

Sucralose is, according to the Splenda International Patent A23L001-236 and PEP Review #90-1-4 (July 1991), synthesized by this five-step process:
1. sucrose is tritylated with trityl chloride in the presence of dimethylformamide and 4-methylmorpholine and the tritylated sucrose is then acetylated with acetic anhydride,
2. the resulting TRISPA (6,1',6'-tri-O-trityl-penta-O-acetylsucrose) is chlorinated with hydrogen chloride in the presence of toluene,
3. the resulting 4-PAS (sucrose 2,3,4,3',4'-pentaacetate) is heated in the presence of methyl isobutyl ketone and acetic acid,
4. the resulting 6-PAS (sucrose 2,3,6,3',4'-pentaacetate) is chlorinated with thionyl chloride in the presence of toluene and benzyltriethylammonium chloride, and
5. the resulting TOSPA (sucralose pentaacetate) is treated with methanol (wood alcohol, a poison) in the presence of sodium methoxide to produce sucralose. (1)

Even if you don't know what the chemicals are, it should scare any sensible person.

"Splenda (sucralose) is created in the lab, using a complex process involving dozens of chemicals you and I can barely pronounce - let alone consume. Basically, the chemists force chlorine into an unnatural chemical bond with a sugar molecule, resulting in a sweeter product, but at a price: a huge amount of artificial chemicals must be added to keep sucralose from digesting in our bodies. These toxic substances prevent (hopefully) the dangerous chlorine molecules from detaching from the sugar molecule inside the digestive system, which would be a carcinogenic hazard."

So here you have it, and hopefully you too will question these products and stop using them. Find out more at wwww.dorway.com.

Never too late to read the labels on what you buy.

dangerous for diabetics

Splenda and chlorine: dangerous for diabetics.

Few human studies of safety have been published on sucralose.

One small study of diabetic patients using the sweetener showed a statistically significant increase in glycosylated hemoglobin (Hba1C), a marker of long-term blood glucose levels used to assess glycemic control.

According to the FDA, “increases in glycosolation in hemoglobin imply lessening of control of diabetes.” People with diabetes should avoid using Splenda or any products listing sucralose on the label, including pharmaceuticals. In fact, everyone should avoid Splenda, it's a chlorinated hydrocarbon like DDT.

More information: http://www.wnho.net/splenda_chlorocarbon.htm

There is a product complaint hot line taking adverse reaction reports. Some of the complaints include a very serious skin rash, migraine headaches and seizures.

The manufacturer of sucralose has already lost two lawsuits in Philadelphia and France. There is now a billion dollar lawsuit in California against sucralose. Attorney James Turner and Citizens for Health have petitioned the FDA for product recall.

SPLENDA Effects Update

If you don't know the history of Sucralose or Splenda, it was originally developed as a pesticide. Information withheld from the manufacturer include shrinkage of the thmus (part of your immune system), liver swelling and calcification of the kidneys.
New Study of Splenda and Sucralose Reveals Shocking New Information About Potential Harmful Effect on Humans
MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 22, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- James Turner, chairman of the national consumer education group Citizens for Health expressed shock and outrage after reading a new report from scientists at Duke University. "The report makes it clear that the artificial sweetener Splenda and its key component sucralose pose a threat to the people who consume the product. Hundreds of consumers have complained to us about side effects from using Splenda and this study, published this past week in the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health Part A, confirms that the chemicals in the little yellow package should carry a big red warning label," said Turner.

Among the results in the study by Drs.

The study was conducted using male rats over a period of twelve weeks. The manufacturers of Splenda also used a rat study when they applied for and received approval to market the product from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. At the time, the findings from their rat studies were extrapolated as to possible effects on humans. This is standard FDA practice and this study is consistent with that practice.

Turner said, "This report followed accepted policies and procedures and the results make clear the potential for disturbing side effects from the ingestion of Splenda. It is like putting a pesticide in your body. And this is at levels of intake erroneously approved by the Food and Drug Administration. A person eating two slices of cake and drinking two cups of coffee containing Splenda would ingest enough sucralose to affect the P-glycoprotein, while consuming just seven little Splenda packages reduces good bacteria." Although the effect of consuming Splenda does not result from a one time use, the side effects do occur after accumulated use. Turner also noted unmistakable evidence that Splenda is absorbed by fat, contrary to the claims of Johnson & Johnson.

Turner announced, "We are calling today on the FDA to immediately accept our petition filed over a year ago and initiate a review of its approval of sucralose and to require a warning label on Splenda packaging cautioning that people who take medications and/or have gastrointestinal problems avoid using Splenda. The new study makes it clear that Splenda can cause you to gain weight and lose the benefits of medications designed to improve and protect your health. The FDA should not continue to turn a blind eye to this health threat."

Citizens for Health will testify in Sacramento, CA, on October 3, 2008, before the California Assembly Committee on Health which is examining the use of deceptive advertising to promote sales of potentially unhealthy food additives, particularly artificial sweeteners.

Aspartame and Seizures

The attitude of science toward the unwelcome is that it does not exist

June 11, 2013: Today at 5pm eastern time. just click the link and network feed will start automatically. ASPARTAME.

A disturbing report on the fast rise of seizure disorder in children was something I heard on NPR yesterday morning.

We know aspartame is in some of the vaccine solutions.  We know some of the vaccine ingredients are known to harm brain function along with causing nutrient depletion.  We know some of the seizure drugs contain aspartame. We also know that aspartame, sucralose, acesulfame K, and other neurotoxic artificial sweeteners are in children’s vitamins, children’s antibiotics, chewing gum, and many other food and beverage items. Please inquire and read labels.

81 Medicines with Aspartame  http://euphory.com/medications-containing-aspartame/

Chilling.

My friend, James Bowen, MD, wrote a paper on Splenda (sucralose) describing the issue of seizure from this artificial sweetener too.

Thanks go to Dr. Betty Martini also for responding to NPR regarding this issue.  Some of her material is below.

"The Goal is to Keep Children Seizure Free"  - It's the Aspartame Issue! (Note error, should say Hayes over-ruled the revoked petition for aspartame approval)

http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2013/06/10/188639089/with-epilepsy-treatment-the-goal-is-to-keep-kids-seizure-free

Some years ago I attended the American College of Physicians with the late world expert on aspartame, Dr. H. J. Roberts.  In the Neurology workshop the professor said:  "Can anyone tell me why people all over this country are having seizures for no reason."  Dr. Roberts said, "Tell them Betty!"  I explained to the professor that aspartame is in thousands of products and the 50% phenylalanine lowers the seizure threshold.  Even pilots are having seizures in the cockpits of commercial airliners."  The professor said, "But I thought that was in the rare case of  Phenylketonuria."  "No Professor, in all people".  A physician raised his  hand and said, "Professor, she's right.  I'm a pilot and a physician.  I have a friend who flies commercially and has seizures and we're going to have to report him."  Today we have Mission Possible Aviation which I founded after a pilot crashed his plane on aspartame:  http://www.mpwhi.com/pilot_aspartame_alert.htm FAA said they can't do anything because FDA approved this neurotoxin.

When the manufacturers of aspartame and the FDA lie to physicians it ties their hands.  Now let's show you how really bad it gets.  Aspartame interacts with anti-seizure medication so the patient can't be helped.  In Dr. Roberts medical text, "Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic", www.sunsentpress.com there is a chapter on drug interaction.  You see aspartame damages the mitochondria or powerhouse of the cell and interacts with drugs and vaccines.

So what do they do with children who just can't get well?  Sometimes they use the Ketogenic diet and they use Ketocal.  When I checked some years ago it contained aspartame.  I made such a fuss about it I decided to check and see if they had taken it out.  They have and what did they  replace it with?  Sucralose! When Marianne Lamar's husband used Splenda and had a grand mal seizure she called the manufacturer who first told her it didn't cause seizures.  She gave them such a hard time they finally admitted "well okay, yes Splenda causes seizures and migraines".  She asked them why they don't make that known and was told because there are so few cases.  Well, of course, how can you associate Splenda with seizures when its kept a dark secret that it causes them.  So Ketocal is now advertised as aspartame-free but it contains Sucralose.  Dr. Morando Soffritti did a study on sucralose and found it also causes cancer so like aspartame violates the Delaney Amendment and is illegally on the market.

I was talking to a wonderful, brilliant neurologist here in Atlanta, Dr. Ramon Sanchez,  who remembers the aspartame wars  in the beginning and knows it causes seizures.  He told me about a patient who had so many seizures he finally put her in the hospital. He said he tried every anti-seizure medication in the PDR (Physicians Desk Reference) and nothing worked.  Of course, it won't - it aspartame interacts with anti-seizure medication. When Dr. Sanchez went to the hospital he found a case of Diet Coke under the bed and questioned the patient who was addicted to it.  He got her off but she went crazy so he put her in a mental institution.  Aspartame triggers psychiatric and behavioral problems as well.  He had her released a couple of weeks later - no more mental problems and no more seizures.

Dr. Ralph Walton wrote:  "Two years after aspartame was introduced onto the market I first became aware of the negative impact of this artificial sweetener on the central nervous system. I had been treating a then 54 year old woman with imipramine, a tricyclic antidepressant, because of recurrent major depressive episodes. Previous psychoanalytically based therapy had proven ineffective, but she responded dramatically to 150mg of imipramine per day. She had done well for 11 years on this medication, but was then suddenly hospitalized with a grand-mal seizure and subsequent manic episode.

"One could postulate that she was bipolar, and the antidepressant had triggered the mania - but she had been on the same medication for a total of 11 years, and for the previous 5 years at the same 150mg per day dose. Neither the seizure nor her mania was consistent with what we know about the clinical course of bipolar disorder or epilepsy. Careful history revealed that the only change in her life was a recent decision to switch from the sugar which she had always used to sweeten her iced tea to a newly marketed product with aspartame.

"Since aspartame can alter the balance of certain neurotransmitters which we believe are involved in mood disorders and can, in my opinion, alter the seizure threshold, I advised my patient to avoid all aspartame products. She did so, and had no further seizures, no further manic or depressive episodes. I discontinued the lithium carbonate which I had started when I mistakenly concluded that she had a bipolar disorder, reinstated her imipramine and she has continued to do well.

"After this case report was published in the medical literature, many patients with unexplained seizures or treatment resistant psychiatric problems were referred to me. I became increasingly convinced that aspartame could both trigger seizure activity and mimic or exacerbate a variety of psychiatric disorders".  Dr. Walton did a study on aspartame and the reactions were so severe the institution  stopped the study.

Dr. Russell Blaylock in "Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills", www.russellblaylockmd.com wrote about aspartame and seizures:  He said: "In 1985 Dr. Richard J. Wurtman reported three such cases in the journal Lancet.  One case involved a forty two year old secretary who developed a seizure following a practice of drinking seven liters of NutraSweet containing beverages per day.  She had no previous history of seizures.  The second case was a twenty-seven-year-old computer programmer who had a single grand mal seizure after drinking 4 to 5 glasses of "Crystal Light" containing NutraSweet.  It is interesting that this patient also experienced "twitching, trembling, jerking, and hyperventilation."  What makes this interesting is that it resembles the "wet dog shades" seen when dogs are given large doses of the excitotoxin kainate.  The last case was a thirty-six year-old professor who drank one liter of ice tea sweetened with NutraSweet everyday.  After several days of this practice he developed a grand mal seizure."

Dr. Wurtman wanted to do studies on aspartame and seizures and was threatened by the VP of G. D. Searle, the original manufacturer, if he did his research funds would be rejected.  They were.  Read it in the UPI Investigation, 8 months, by Gregory Gordon:  http://www.mpwhi.com/upi_1987_aspartame_report.pdf

Mrs. Barbara Metzler, Mission Possible New Jersey, wrote Dr. Wurtman in 1986.  She said:  -- "I have a 22 year old daughter who was only recently diagnosed as having temporal lobe epilepsy. -- Her behavior has been more and more bewildering for approximately two years.  My mother's intuition told me that something was amiss.  I hammered at her relentlessly by phone.  Finally, and nearly too late, she announced that she has been experiencing bizarre symptoms with increasing frequently.  --- After pondering her revelation for several days, it suddenly occurred to me that aspartame could have triggered her seizures since I develop severe migraine attacks immediately after drinking beverages sweetened with NutraSweet."

Barbara's daughter was having seizures, going blind from the methanol in aspartame and had a complete personality change.  Her daughter, Julia, is an uncommonly brilliant girl with the possibility of a magnificent future at the time.  When she was in high school, she won a Telluride Association Scholarship.  She competed with more than one million students from the entire US for this honor.

Dr. Wurtman wrote Barbara back on April 29, 1986 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and said:  "Dear Mrs. Metzler:  Thank you for writing to us about your daughter's condition that may very well be associated with NutraSweet.  We are very anxious to collect information on people like your daughter and would be very grateful if you would provide us with the information requested on the attached form letter.  Either Dr. Donald Schomer, my neurologist colleague, or I will be back in touch with you as soon as we receive this information.  Cordially yours, Richard J. Wurtman, M.D."

To make a long story short Barbara's daughter got off aspartame/NutraSweet/Equal/Canderel, etc. and the seizures disappeared, her eyesight was restored and her personality went back to normal.

Dr. Richard Wurtman,  was at one-time a Searle consultant,  then resigned to become a critic of NutraSweet. He said  he had been contacted by more than 200 people who suspected their seizures resulted from the toxin. He said it was enough for FDA to remove aspartame from the marketplace.   Today he has aspartame lockjaw, and will not speak out about aspartame but MIT gets research funds. His paper trail is enormous.  Don't fail to read "Dietary Phenylalanine and Brain Function" edited by Dr. Wurtman (Birkhauser).

Has it been proven aspartame triggers seizures.  Sure it has by the manufacturer's own study.  A 52 week oral toxicity study on aspartame with 7 infant monkeys showed 5 had grand mal seizures and 1 died.  Searle used it as pivotal in the approval of this deadly addictive, excitoneurotoxic, carcinogenic, genetically engineered drug and adjuvant.  In the beginning the FDA were heros, first trying to having G. D. Searle indicted for fraud but both US Prosecutors hired on with the defense team and the statute of limitations expired.  So they revoked the petition for approval.  Meanwhile G. D. Searle hired Don Rumsfeld to get it on the market and Searle filed suit at the time the FDA Board of Inquiry revoked the petition. Rumsfeld said he would call in his markers and get it on the market.  He was on President Reagan's transition team and the day after Reagan took office he had someone from the team call FDA Commissioner Jere Goyan who would have signed the petition into law at 3:00 AM and fired him.  Then he wrote an executive order making the FDA powerless to do anything on aspartame or sign the petition until he could get a new commissioner there.  He appointed Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes, a friend of Rumsfeld who then revoked the petition for approval.

Today the FDA is simply Big Pharma's Washington Branch Office.  I call them the Fatal Drugs Allowed folks,.  Even when I filed an amendment to a citizen's petition for ban  based on an imminent health hazard  in 2007 they have refused to answer.  They wrote they had more important things to do. You're suppose to answer in a week or ten days by law but the FDA serves above the law.

Look at the FDA's own report of 92 documented symptoms on aspartame and you'll see four types of seizures listed:  http://www.mpwhi.com/92_aspartame_symptoms.pdf

The aspartic acid in aspartame is an excitotoxin, a product that literally stimulates the neurons of the brain to death causing brain injury.  Call it the sister to MSG, another excitotoxin.  Actually, all three components trigger seizures in aspartame as Dr. James Bowen has discussed.  MSG has a synergistic and additive effect with aspartame.  Jack Samuels some years ago filed suit against the FDA on this issue and labeling.  Let me show you how friendly the FDA is with the glutamate people.

In l993 Jack Samuels, President of the <http://www.truthinlabeling.org/>Truth in Labeling Campaign, was reviewing FDA docket files relating to an FDA study on the safety of amino acids in supplements. In the files, he found a letter dated March 22, l991, from Andrew G. Ebert, PhD, Chairman, International Glutamate Technical Committee, glutamate industry organization where Ebert admitted that aspartame had been used since at least l978 in test and placebo materials that his organization provided to scientists who study the safety of MSG.

A review of studies conducted with the above-referenced test material clearly indicates that some subjects reacted to both MSG test material and placebo material. Scientists conducting such studies concluded that since subjects reacted to both MSG and placebos, their reactions were not from MSG. Even though such logic is highly questionable, we now know that subjects reacted to placebos because of the presence of aspartame, an additive that causes MSG-type responses in MSG-sensitive people. Because of the disclosure of the use of aspartame in placebo material by Jack Samuels, the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, in its July l995 report on the safety of MSG in food, concluded that the use of aspartame in placebo materials was inappropriate.

If you want to read more about this get the new book, "The Man Who Sued The FDA" by Adrienne Samuels.  Unfortunately, Jack Samuels died.  Many of the things used in the hospital had MSG and probably killed him.  He could go into anaphylactic shock if he got MSG.  See his web site, www.truthinlabeling.org

So how can the manufacturer  and their paid flacks do studies on aspartame and seizures and it not show the problems.  Read www.holisticmed.com/aspartame/abuse/seizures.html Seems like there should be a law against these types of studies to cover up the problems.

It was James Turner, Attorney, and the famed John Olney, M.D. who tried to prevent approval of aspartame.  You must get the aspartame documentary "Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World", cori@sweetremedyradio.com  You can google the clip, "Sick on Aspartame, Meet Don Rumsfeld" where James Turner explains approval:  Turner says Dr. Olney got so sick of Searle's shenanigans he insisted they do studies in his laboratory so he could oversee them.  Sure enough aspartame destroyed the brains of the rodents so he thought it could never get approved.  However, Searle never told the FDA!

How heinous a crime can the approval of aspartame be?   The FDA made a deal with G. D. Searle to seal all studies and records on aspartame and birth defects so the public would never know the FDA said aspartame caused birth defects.  It caused neural tube birth defects which as Dr. Monte says in his book "While Science Sleeps" is often a grotesquely disfiguring malformation of the infant that encompasses a spectrum of disorders ranging from cleft palate, through spina bifida, to the always fatal presentations of horrifically deformed skulls with exposed or missing brains.  It has caused an epidemic of autism.  Read the last chapter:
<http://www.whilesciencesleeps.com/While%20Science%20Sleeps%20-%20Chapter%2012%20(ref).pdf>http://www.whilesciencesleeps.com/While%20Science%20Sleeps%20-%20Chapter%2012%20(ref).pdf This is the best book there is on the methanol in aspartame.  Even tells how Dr. Monte's house was blown up with him in it.

Children don't have a chance these days.  In the movie, "Sweet Remedy" the ADD people were interviewed and said before the approval of aspartame the terms ADD and ADHD were hardly used.
Read the "Report for Schools" on the banner on my web site, www.mpwhi.com Feingold, the ADD people wrote an excellent report.

Now to add insult to injury the dairy people have petitioned the FDA to allow aspartame in 17 dairy products removing labeling  like "chocolate milk, reduced calories" which would identify the product as having aspartame or artificial sweeteners to simply "chocolate milk".  Aspartame requires a PKU warning by law.  Consider if someone who has gotten off aspartame doesn't realize its in a dairy product and uses it.  Many are chemically hypersensitive for life and it could cause their death.  In "Sweet Misery" you will see a woman who told the hospital she was chemically hypersensitive to aspartame and couldn't have it.  A dietitian gave her Crystal Lite and she became a Code Blue and they had to resuscitate her to save her life.

In an interview with Dr. James Bowen, some years ago  he stated: "The FDA has made aspartame a self-validating compound, meaning that since they have released it to market generally recognized as safe, it must be held blameless. Therefore, their own studies which show horrendous toxicity must be held invalid." Dr. Bowen who says aspartame triggered his Lou Gehrig's Disease, toxic cardiopathy, and severe depression, not to mention changing his hair from rich, dark brown to total silver gray in six weeks wrote the FDA several years ago telling them that aspartame was a mass poisoning of the American public and more than 70 other countries. Their only response to this, says Dr. Bowen, was to send an FDA investigator to his office after he collected 30 other cases for them. This investigator told Dr. Bowen, "We don't like what you're doing, and we want you to stop." He told me she repeatedly refused to accept the 30 cases of aspartame poisoning he collected. Whereupon he said to her, "Did you come here to intimidate me, or did you come here to review the case reports, as you say you have?" He says she merely glared at him and refused to take the reports until he repeatedly pressured her to do so, and nobody has seen those reports since.

Special warning for diabetics:  Aspartame can precipitate diabetes, simulates and aggravates diabetic retinopathy and neuropathy, destroys the optic nerve, causes diabetics to go into convulsions, and even interacts with insulin.  The free methyl alcohol causes diabetics to lose limbs.  Jeanette Soto, Mission Possible Brookville, Florida who wrote "Blinded Sight" when her husband lost his sight from aspartame was unable to get her father-in-law, diabetic off aspartame because of the addiction.  The free methyl alcohol is classified as a narcotic.  It causes chronic methanol poisoning which affects the dopamine system of the brain and causes the addiction.  When Jeanette's father-in-law, Santiago Echiverria died it had to be a closed casket, the formaldehyde from the free methyl alcohol was oozing out of his skin.

Mothers Using Aspartame
In Pregnancy & Autism Epidemic:
The FDA Knew It Would Happen!

As Dr. James Bowen's paper "Aspartame Murders infants" explained, the poison violates the Federal Genocide Law. Toxic mechanisms the doctor listed include:

Teratogen, it produces birth defects
Adjuvant, it forms antigenic tissue triggering immunologic attack
Fetal Wastage
Chelation, promotes heavy metal poisoning.

Dr. Bowen said further: "Aspartame. sold as NutraSweet, AminoSweet, E951 and Equal, is in thousands of foods and diet drinks, as well as drugs. At every point in the fertility process APM destroys, beginning with the gleam in Mom and Pop's eyes: it ruins female sexual response and induces male sexual dysfunction. Beyond this, aspartame disrupts fetal development by aborting it or inducing defects. And if a live child is born aspartame may have heinously damaged the DNA of the baby, cursing future generations.

So here we are in 2012 with a global epidemic of autism. Dr. Bill Deagle said:"The European Environmental Association has projected that with the rise of autism caused by toxic foods like Aspartame, MSG, Fluoride, and environmental degradation, by 2013 no one will be born in the Western World that does not to some degree have autism. Our board of AAEM, American Academy of Environmental Medicine and Dr. William Rae, director of the Dallas Environmental Clinic agreed in open discussion at the October 2010 annual meeting".

In 1999 Parents Magazine featured the article What's Happening to Our Children that said almost every family is involved.

To answer Parents Magazine, the aspartame industry used their power to get  this deadly chemical poison on the market that was listed with the pentagon in an inventory of prospective biochemical warfare weapons submitted to Congress <http://www.mpwhi.com/ecologist_september_2005.pdf>http://www.mpwhi.com/ecologist_september_2005.pdf They have used their power to keep it on the market all because of profit, addiction and greed.  Dr. Maria Alemany in Barcelona did the Trocho study on aspartame and showed that it embalmed living tissue and damages DNA.  When I met this courageous and brilliant professor he said, "Betty, aspartame will kill 200 million people."  The aspartame industry tried to assassinate his character for exposing the truth to the world.

Robin Goodwin, Mission Possible Falklands, petitioned for a ban of aspartame but didn't want to wait years.  He  wrote all 3,000 citizens warning them. His wife suffered an aspartame brain tumor and his daughter had seizures for 18 years, which ceased when she abstained. In early April, 2006, he told me aspartame-containing products  were now rotting on the store shelves there.   Aspartame Disease is now a global plague and children are suffering the world over.  If we don't get aspartame banned by Codex it could be used in countries where it is not even approved.

If you value your baby's or child's life you now must be sure they will never get aspartame. A safe sweetener is "Just Like Sugar", www.justlikesugarinc.com  Spread the word.  Email me for the "Aspartame Resource Guide" - bettym19@mindspring.com
