GMOs and Glyphosate Linked to Infertility, Botulism and SIDS

USDA Deregulates GMO Sugar Beets

On Friday, June 1, 2012, the Animal Plant and Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that it has completed the final assessment of Monsanto’s genetically engineered sugar beets that were modified to withstand continued applications of the Monsanto’s flagship herbicide, Roundup.  Since every application for deregulation of a genetically engineered crop has so far beenapproved, it surprised no one when the agency again recommended a complete deregulation.
APHIS prepared two assessments — an environmental impact statement and a plant pest risk assessment.  Both assessments were made pursuant to court orders after a lengthy legal battle with the USDA by concerned consumer and environmental groups.
The initial lawsuit, filed in January 2008, was in response to the agency’s decision to deregulate genetically engineered sugar beets. In September 2009, the district court ordered the agency to conduct a full environmental impact study. The following year, in August 2010, the same court set aside the agency’s initial deregulation decision of GE sugar beets.
The USDA’s response to the court’s August 2010 ruling was to grant industry members temporary permits that allowed continued planting of GE sugar beets, forcing environmental groups back into count to challenge the agency conduct. The district court ruled that seedlings planted pursuant to the permits must be destroyed. An Appellate Court, however,  overturned that decision in February 2011. That same month APHIS announced that it will grant Monsanto’s request for a partial deregulation allowing planting of GE sugar beets with certain limitations until the agency conducts the court-ordered assessments.
George Kimbrell, Senior Attorney with the Center for Food Safety (CFS), one of the plaintiffs in the case, told me that CFS was “disappointed” with the agency’s decision and that CFS is reviewing the 800-plus page assessments to determine if any action is warranted.  SOURCE

Food and Population Control a 35 year old plan

UPDATE: 8 June 2011

Be that as it may, I, as a penultimate observer of world activities for more than 50 years, and having studied history from time to time along the way, only have to endorse the 'act locally' philosophy.

I have never been a fan of Henry Kissinger. I sort have always viewed him as a Dr. Mengele type character who would be better off retiring to some far off land and out of public affairs.

Here is an interesting tome on this issue from Kissinger's proposals.

The Diabetes Industry

Natural Health News has over three dozen articles on diabetes and related topics.  Our main domain since 1991, www.leaflady.org, has numerous pages on this topic.  CHI-Creating Health Institute on facebook has posted to our Diabetes Diary since February and this will continues through 12 July in support of the Longest Walk, Reversing Diabetes.  I also publish the subscription Diabetes E-List.

I went into nursing in 1969.  Prior to that I was working in public health and community mental health.  Over these many years I have been a staunch advocate of natural therapy for diabetes and other health concerns, as well as a proponent of PREVENTION.

Now some 30+ years later comes a health organization that makes the same statements as I have been making for decades, as if the idea was new.  It is no different than a couple of my competitors that seem to try all sorts of tricks to top the search engines, event to the point of using our name.

However, as some one who has always been ahead of the pack, it is good to know that I am not the lone beacon on the shore.

And you'll see why I developed HEALTH FORENSICS as an extremely effective system to help you find "the road to new health".

You'll note recent posts regarding the Food Pyramid and "The Plate" as well as coverage of diabetes drugs and artificial sweeteners, statins, and more here at the ORIGINAL Natural Health News.

American Dietetic Association (ADA) Strengthening its Monopoly

Introducing "the PLATE".  The new tool government wants you to use that is still too high in grains, sugars, and obesity promoting food.  Just remember, this "new" tool cost taxpayers $2 million. I recall a couple of decades ago when "the PLATE" concept was used to teach nutrition.

May 2011 - The ADA is basically the clinical arm of the USDA and Big AG.  If you aren't sure you know about this group then maybe you have heard that in its "diabetes education" it promotes aspartame, sucralose, canola and soy.

And if you regularly read Natural Health News you know that these are very unhealthy foods.

If you go back a few decades you might even remember that ADA members serving as hospital dietitians (R.D.) brought about the extensive number of articles about the deaths and malnutrition associated with eating hospital food.

Then we have the food pyramid that originally was health promoting until Big AG came in and made the USDA re-formulate it so that it promoted the foods that have led you down the slippery slope to the current obesity epidemic.  Along with obesity is the increase in many chronic diseases that are created by following ADA recommendations, such as the non fat / low fat diet craze of the last 30 years.

I am very familiar with the work of Elizabeth Lipski, the highly qualified nutritionist referenced in the above article.  She is an outstanding resource and extremely knowledgable, much more so that most dieticians I have encoutered in my health career.  I use her work as a required resouce for my students.  And I have recommended it to doctors as well.

You really have to put your thinking on the line here and understand what the mainstream control freaks are doing here, and it isn;t just to nutritionists.

As a health professional who has provided nutritional consulting over many decades I find this just one more way the corporatocracy and the bureauracracy will be limiting and dumbing down your health care options.

One example of R.D. misinformation -
The important point to remember is that vitamins over certain levels are shown to act like drugs. Many individuals take vitamins not knowing what amounts they are receiving or why they are taking them, putting them at risk for other issues. Susan B. Dopart

GMO Alfalfa Gets Go Ahead from USDA

What the Heck Happened? The Politics of GM Alfalfa Explained
How did the USDA's plan for peaceful coexistence among alfalfa growers end up with the agency approving GM alfalfa with no restrictions?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
We are seeing the sell out to Big Bus from the White House day after day -
USDA abandoning provision to protect organic farmers from genetic contamination
Andrew Kimbrell, Executive Director for the Center for Food Safety poignantly stated that:
USDA has become a rogue agency in its regulation of biotech crops and its decision to appease the few companies who seek to benefit from this technology comes despite increasing evidence that GE alfalfa will threaten the rights of farmers and consumers, as well as damage the environment.

Little seems to be different at EPA and other agencies as the clear and apparent danger of selling out to the corporatocracy continues.

Cornucopia says:

USDA to Fully Deregulate Monsanto’s Genetically Engineer Alfalfa — Gene Contamination of Feed, Milk, Meat and Other Products to Follow…

"The policy set for GE alfalfa will most likely guide policies for other GE crops as well. True coexistence is a must."   -  Whole Foods Market, Jan. 21, 2011
In the wake of a 12-year battle to keep Monsanto's Genetically Engineered (GE) crops from contaminating the nation's 25,000 organic farms and ranches, America's organic consumers and producers are facing betrayal. A self-appointed cabal of the Organic Elite, spearheaded by Whole Foods Market, Organic Valley, and Stonyfield Farm, has decided it's time to surrender to Monsanto. Top executives from these companies have publicly admitted that they no longer oppose the mass commercialization of GE crops, such as Monsanto's controversial Roundup Ready alfalfa, and are prepared to sit down and cut a deal for "coexistence" with Monsanto and USDA biotech cheerleader Tom Vilsack.

Stop GMO Corn NOW!

UPDATE: 18 February
Please realise that it has been proven that GM products do alter tissue in the human boy and the long term effect of this alteration is unknown.
EU court attacks GM crop secrecy
Europe's top court has ruled that EU governments have no right to conceal the location of field trials of genetically modified (GM) crops.

The European Court of Justice was responding to a case brought by Pierre Azelvandre in Alsace, eastern France.

He wanted to know where GM field trials had taken place in his local area.

The only EU-approved GM crop is a strain of corn developed by the US firm Monsanto. But GM trials for research are legal, under strict controls.

The court in Luxembourg ruled on Tuesday that "information relating to the location of the release can in no case be kept confidential".

It said "considerations relating to the protection of public order and other secrets protected by law... cannot constitute reasons capable of restricting access to the information listed by the [EU] directive, including in particular those relating to the location of release".

On Monday, the European Commission failed in a bid to force the governments of France and Greece to allow Monsanto's GM corn to be grown in their countries.

Opponents of GM crops say more scientific data is needed, arguing that their long-term genetic impact on humans and wildlife could be harmful.

The biotech industry says the crops are as safe as traditional varieties, and that they would provide plentiful, cheaper food.

Genetically Engineered Crops Creating More Pesticide Addiction in U.S.
According to a recent (December 2008) global summary report from the Worldwatch Institute:
1) The U.S. leads the world, by far, in genetically engineered crop production and consumption.

2) The widespread planting of crops genetically engineered to resist specific pesticides (which allows farmers to apply more pesticides to their
crops) has created 15 new species of plants known as "superweeds" that are resistant to commonly used pesticides. In 2008, these superweeds were discovered on hundreds of thousands of acres of U.S. farmland.

3) Due to the presence of these new superweeds, GM crop production has already led to a $60 million annual increase in pesticide use in the U.S.
Most of that money goes to the same companies that developed the GM crops that were supposed to reduce pesticide use in the first place.

Tell USDA "NO" on new untested genetically engineered corn

USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has given preliminary approval to Event 98140 corn, the first of a new generation of pesticide-promoting, genetically engineered (GE) crops designed to survive spraying with multiple herbicides. This latest petition to deregulate a new, untested, and complex GE crop poses food safety, environmental, and agronomic concerns that were not adequately evaluated by the previous Administration's USDA. APHIS has failed to adequately address a range of health and environmental risks in its draft environmental assessment (EA), including novel food safety concerns, increased pesticide use and increased prevalence of herbicide-resistant weeds.

To make matters worse, the USDA has limited the opportunity for public input, by only accepting comments until this Friday, February 6th!

Speak out now! Tell USDA to put the brakes on this approval, and prepare and publish a thorough Environmental Impact Statement before making a decision. Visit the Center for Food Safety's True Food Network at http://ga3.org/campaign/PioneerCorn TODAY to learn more and take action.

Thanks for all your support for family farmers and a sustainable future for all!
